Creative History
|
OverviewA topic on toys is often used to introduce children to the concepts of old and new. This course seeks to take this idea further by introducing teachers to toys from Ancient Egyptian times to Modern day. Through discussion and handling of the toys we consider their similarities and differences, how materials were used, why materials changed and how the toys can be used to allow children to make conclusions about the times they came from. In addition to examining how a toy' topic can further children's historical skills links to Materials (Science) and Design technology are explored. The theoretical part of the day is then followed by looking at creative practical ways to develop this topic in the classroom. Attendees have the opportunity to create their own models to take back to the classroom. Course Outline
