Overview

A topic on homes allows children to compare how and where they live with homes in the past. This course seeks to show teachers the major differences for the most common history periods covered by the primary school curriculum. Through discussion, use of pictures, models and artefacts this course seeks to provide teachers with a sound understanding of the similarities and differences between period homes for average people, which materials were used, why they were used and how furnishing changed. In addition to examining how a 'homes' can further children's historical skills links to Materials (Science) and Design technology are explored. The theoretical part of the day is then followed by looking at creative practical ways to develop this topic in the classroom. Attendees have the opportunity to create their own models to take back to the classroom.
