Booking Creative History CharactersBooking a character involves agreeing a mutually compatible date. We would also like to talk through your teaching needs to provide the most effective visit we can. Once we have received your booking request we will contact you to finalise the arrangements. This includes matching the character's tales, and the artefacts that they carry, to your teaching objectives (e.g. looking at clothes, leisure time, food, shelter). Before you commit to the booking, we will advise you of the cost of the visit (see below).
Alternatively, send the following information:
to: Creative History, 9 Spring Gardens, North Baddesley, Hampshire, SO52 9JG or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you! What does a Character or Theme Day Visit cost?We recognise that pupil numbers vary. To become more effective for small schools we have changed from one fixed fee to a costing formula based on pupil numbers, visitor fee, mileage and specialist materials. Visitor Fee. The visitor fee is £225 for a whole-day session and £120 for a half-day session. If desired, the whole-day session can feature two different characters at no extra cost. Alternatively, a Character half-day can be combined with a Theme half-day. However, in both cases time must be allowed for the visitor to change costumes and setup for the second session. Pupil Numbers. Each pupil participating in the visit costs an additional 75p. This is to cover the cost of the logbooks and pencils, core workshops and other materials. Specialist Materials. A core workshop can be replaced by a specialist workshop that requires more expensive materials. For example: cookery, jewellery, ceramics, tapestry weaving, peg dolls, ribbon favours, tuzzy-muzzies, or wire-work. You can supply these materials yourself, or we can source them for you. Mileage is charged at 40p per mile. The number of miles is the total round-trip mileage from North Baddesley, Hampshire to your school. If your school is 10 miles from North Baddesley the cost will be £8 (total of 20 miles @ 40p). Three examples of how this costing works in practice are given below. Fees are payable 30 days from a booking confirmation being issued. Any cancellation must be made in writing. Cancellations made within 21 days of the visit incur £45 costs. Want to know more? Click here to send us an email. For out of school hours / weekend / holiday work, please enquire. Example ASchool A has booked a half-day morning session with Taia, the Ancient Egyptian for 30 pupils. The school is 30 miles away from North Baddesley (hence 60 mile round-trip). School A has decided to have the core workshops.
The travelling shop is also included in the visit to school A. The shop is to 'open' to the children and teachers after lunch. Mainly consisting of low cost items for the children (30p to £2), the shop also features teaching resources at the request of the school. In return for hosting the travelling shop the school receives 10% of takings in goods. Example BSchool B has booked a whole-day session with 'Jane the Baker'. 60 pupils are involved in the visit which is 10 miles away from North Baddesley (hence 20 mile round-trip). The school has opted to include a specialist jewellery making workshop and, in this case, the cost of the beads is £15.
In this case the school decided to ask for a £3.00 contribution per child from the parents. This covers £180 of the cost with the school making up the difference. Example CSchool C has booked a whole-day session split into a half-day with Victoria Mansford and a half-day with the Toy Factory. The school is 45 miles away from North Baddesley and 105 children are involved in the day. School C have decided not to have any specialist workshops. However, they have requested the Travelling Shop with the full range of goods and asked to have it run by the PTA during the day for children and staff, then after school for families. In return for hosting the Travelling Shop the school receives 10% of takings in goods.
