Who are Aztecs?

That is exactly what our  investigating Archaeologists would like to know. So, they lead your audience on an adventure to discover if there is more to these apparently gruesome folk than blood and sacrifice.

Some days are luckier than others. In the Aztec scenario our archaeologists are given a specialist grant to investigate the Aztecs for a wealthy benefactor.  Initially unsure of the mission they recount to the audience the well known gory side of the Aztecs. Then having noted that most sources of information are written from the Spanish conquerors view they consider what they would like to know.  Unexpectedly, a parcel arrives. Excitedly unwrapping it they discover  a finds box that has been sent from their benefactor.  With the audiences help they start to unfold the story of the Aztecs and their lives.

Aztec's Visit

The introduction starts with the archaeologists being employed by a wealthy benefactor to interpret finds from his Aztec dig. Aided by the audience, a parcel is unpacked and the contents used to start to ask questions about how the Aztecs lived.  This handling exercise is used to lead into a variety of activities that help the audience appreciate Aztec culture and daily life.

The pattern of a day looks at the typical events of a day and how Aztec families dealt with naughty children.  This leads into the story telling of  'The founding of Tenochtitlan'  which looks at how the Aztecs found and then settled their capital. (can be  a whole class role -play or audience participation play for a larger group).

This then moves into looking at  elements of daily life such as writing, food, pottery.

Workshops

If desired, the visiting characters  can run workshops with the children in conjunction with the teachers. Or teachers can opt to run these themselves whilst the characters work with another group/class.  Workshop themes can include: food; music, writing, pottery, clothes, gods and beliefs.

Travelling Shop

The museum shop experience can come to you.  This is a history themed shop that can covers all of the primary history periods, or can be  tailored to the Ancient Greek period. It has been designed to be a  "step back in time shopping experience".  So that the objects for sale mimic items peddlers might have sold at the time.  It is available both as an add on feature; or, as a workshop market stall where children are given reproduction money which they can either keep or use to choose  a purchase  from a range of items typically available in those times.
